British electronic artist M.I.A. is back with an explosive new single. Last week, she released her new track “Go Off” and the accompanying video. The fiery track, produced by Skillrex and Blaqstarr, provides a beat that you can’t help but dance to. Its video, which was directed by M.I.A. herself, features controlled underground explosions in the desert as she sings “Go off on em.”
“Go Off” is the second track on the artist’s upcoming fifth studio album, A.I.M., which is set to be released September 9th. The singer/songwriter recently revealed that the upcoming LP will likely to be her last album.
The first single to be released from A.I.M., “Borders,” was released in November 2015 and referenced the refugee crisis. M.I.A. is passionate about and has become an activist for the subject, since she escaped her native Sri Lanka during a Civil War to find a home in London. This topic will be discussed again in more tracks from the upcoming album.
On a heavier note, the singer/songwriter has officially been dropped as the headliner of the AFROPUNK Festival in London, seemingly over controversial comments she made about the Black Lives Matter movement in April. Her replacement and other artists who will be playing the festival will be announced July 19th.
