Charli XCX and Sam Smith released ‘In The City’, a new standalone track and the artists’ first ever collaboration. ‘In The City’ is an unforgettable dance track produced by ILYA, A.G. Cook, Omer Fedi, George Daniel and Charli XCX.

Charli XCX, who was featured on the cover of The Untitled Magazine’s #GirlPower Issue, is a monumental figure in the arts, having broadened the horizons of pop music over the last decade by effortlessly navigating both niche and popular arenas with her work. Her innovative approaches have not only advanced her own career but have also paved the way for emerging artists that she has backed throughout her journey.

Charli XCX, who emerged in the U.K. nightlife scene in the early 2010s and is known for her collaborations with rising artists, shared a statement in a press release about the new track. “The song is about finding the people you truly love and connect with through wild nights out and partying in magical places,” she said. “It’s about feeling accepted, the magnificence of being welcomed into queer spaces and those once in a lifetime people you get to meet when you’re there.”

The “Unholy” singer, Sam Smith (who we interviewed in 2014), also shared a statement saying, “Charli is a force and getting creative with her is so much fun. This track is about freedom and those unforgettable nights of abandon.”

“In the City” is the latest single by Charli XCX among lead artists since she released “Speed Drive,” her contribution to the Barbie movie soundtrack over the summer. The track became the singer’s first single to enter the Billboard Hot 100 since her 2014 song “Break the Rules.” Sam Smith — who also released a song for the Barbie movie, “Man I Am” — shared their fourth studio album Gloria in January. They supported the record on an international tour that kicked off in April and will soon wrap up in November.
