More art fairs than ever are joining in on Miami Art Week, revolving around the renowned annual Art Basel art fair. ART BASEL MIAMI BEACH 2014
Art Basel Miami Beach, undeniably the most prestigious art show in the Americas, combines an international selection of exciting works by world-renowned artists and top galleries with an exciting program of special exhibitions, parties and crossover events featuring music, film, architecture and design. Art Basel continues to innovate, expanding its platform for new artists who represent the vanguard of the visual arts. With its world-class art museums and private collections, plus a vibrant gallery scene, Miami Beach provides visitors a wealth of opportunities to view some of the finest examples of Modern and contemporary art. Guided tours of Art Basel Miami Beach by established art critics of ArtNexus in English, Spanish, Mandarin, Russian and German are available daily during show hours.

ArtMiami (Dec 2 – 7) is one art fair that has been around even longer than Art Basel Miami. Entering its 25th year, it showcases the most important artworks of the 20th and 21st centuries. The fair will commence on December 2nd with the Opening Night VIP Preview. Events and exhibits will take place at the Midtown Miami complex in the Wynwood Arts District. In its third year, ArtMiami’s sister fair, CONTEXT, can be found in a standalone 45,000-square-foot pavilion directly adjacent to the Art Miami Pavilion.

Aqua Art Miami (Dec 3 – 7)will celebrate its tenth consecutive installment this December and its second as one of the Art Miami family of fairs. It features emerging art, in particular international art programs, with an interest in supporting young and established galleries with strong emerging mid-career artists. Set in a South Beach hotel, the fair is has a relaxed vibe and a lively energy.

CONCEPT (Dec 3 – 7) focuses on blue chip secondary modern master works and contemporary art. Limited to only 22 selected dealers, it is held on the Miami waterfront in the Seafair mega yacht, and it is designed as an oasis for collectors during the frenetic Art Basel Week. A preview will be held on December 2nd: 6 – 7:30 for the VIP Preview, and 7:30 – 10 for the Collector’s Invitational.

Design Miami (Dec 3 – 7) is the global forum for design. It brings together collectors, gallerists, designers, curators, and critics from around the world in celebration of design culture and commerce. It is both a marketplace, and a cultural forum, where museum-quality exhibitions of twentieth and twenty-first century furniture, lighting and objets d’art are on display alongside design panels and lectures from the world’s top designers, architects and artists.

Fridge Art Fair (Dec 4 – 9) comes from Eric Ginsburg’s New York gallery, The Fridge (yes, it’s a play on Frieze). This fair promises to add an extra quirky note to the Miami art scene, with its exhibit, “Mega Mango Miami: The Great Opening” at the 3rd Street Garage in Miami.

INK Miami Art Fair (Dec 3 – 7) is unique for its focus on modern and contemporary works on paper by internationally renowned artists. A nine-year-old fair, it is being sponsored by the International Fine Print Dealers Association. A Preview Breakfast will be held on December 3rd, from 9 – 11am. You can find INK Miami at the Suites of Dorchester in Miami Beach.

Miami River Art Fair (Dec 4 – 7) will take place at the Downtown Miami Convention Center inside the James L. Knight International Center. In its third year, it joins the many emerging art fairs that congregate in Miami during December Art Week. The fair was conceived as a showcase of world-class artists and galleries in an indoor booth setting at the Riverfront Hall. It overlooks the monumental sculptures on the banks of the Miami River.

NADA Art Fair (Dec 4 – 7) will be held at the Deauville Beach Resort in Miami Beach. A well-established fair, NADA, or New Art Dealers Alliance, was founded in 2003. The fair’s stated goal is to exhibit new or underexposed art that is not typical of the “art establishment.” Another distinguishing feature is that it is the only major American art fair run by a non-profit organization.

PINTA (Dec 3 – 7) includes six newly designated sections of the fair this year under  an updated format which allows a fully curated fair. PINTA is the international venue for the exhibition and promotion of Latin American, Spanish, and Portuguese art, and will present such museum-quality works of abstract, concrete, neo-concrete, kinetic, and conceptual art.

PRIZM (Dec 4 – 7) goes into its second year at Art Basel Miami Art Week. It says it wants to expand the spectrum of international artists from the African Diaspora and promote the work of artists of color. The artists selected for the fair are actively engaged in perpetuating Miami’s growth as a cultural hub. It will be hosted at the Miami Center for Architecture and Design.

PULSE (Dec 4 – 7) changes its location this year to Indian Beach Park amid celebrations of its tenth edition of the fair. Since 2005, it has been the leading US-only art fair, exhibiting in New York and Miami. It focuses on cutting-edge contemporary art. PULSE cultivates a supportive environment for its international community of galleries and provides a platform for their growth and expansion in the contemporary market.

Red Dot Art Fair (Dec 2 – 7) announced its 8th edition and return to the same location in the Wynwood Art District in Miami. The opening reception on Tuesday, December 2nd will benefit the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities of Miami. It has a reputation of being a diverse fair, striving to exhibit galleries specializing in emerging, mid-career and established artists that present work of lasting value.

SCOPE (Dec 2 – 7) has hosted 65 art fairs spanning more than a decade, earning the title of  the largest and most global art fair in the world. It once again partners with VH1, hosting an event with artist Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic, who will unveil NOESIS: an exhibition featuring hundreds of feet made from Japanese synthetic paper, which he will hand paint to create the longest continuous painting to be shown at this year’s Art Basel.

Sculpt (Dec 1 – Nov 20) will be located at the Kavachnina Sculpture Garden in the Wynwood Art District of Miami. It will host its VIP party during Art Week, on December 6th. Debuting in 2008 as a unique sculptural art fair, it exhibits large indoor and outdoor sculptures.

Spectrum Miami Art Show (Dec 3-7), taking place in the Wynwood arts district, will have its opening night on December 3rd, from 6 – 10 pm. On the 4th and 5th, it will host evening events called Late Night @ Spectrum, featuring Yo Miami and Bakehouse Art Complex respectively. Under the Spectrum umbrella is ArtSpot Miami (Dec 3 – 7), an international art fair offering innovative art from around the globe. This year, it focuses on Modern and Contemporary Latin American Art.

UNTITLED. (Dec 3 – 7) will hold its third edition this year. It will be located directly on the beach in the heart of South Beach at Ocean Drive. Its new expanded curatorial team for 2014 includes Christophe Boutin and Melanie Scarciglia, co-founders of the distinguished publishing houses onestar press and Three Star Books in Paris. They will use this platform for onestar press to publish a series of artist’s books focusing on a selection of galleries at the fair.

X CONTEMPORARY [PREVIOUSLY SELECT] (Dec 2 – 7) will have Tim Goossens curating. Several special projects are planned for the 2014 fair, including Rashaad Newsome’s presentation of “The Conductor” a six part video installation, Rachel Mason’s doll exhibits and performances, Milk and Night, exploring feminism in the art world, and events by other artists; Alfredo Salazar Caro, Ventiko, Elan Jurado, and Kate Helms and Michael J. Bauman under the handle, Bauhelm Enterprises.

ZONES Contemporary Art Fair (Dec 2 – 7) will present a selection of events and shows that challenge traditional structures in performance and contemporary art: The “Planet Hollywood” of Newer Genres, Jan and Dave’s Improvisational Noise, and Performia Performance Art Festival.
