The Tribeca Film Festival will return to New York City from April 18th to 29th. Now in its 17th edition, this year’s festival includes 96 films, 46% of which are directed by women, the highest percentage in Tribeca’s history. One of the first awards to honor excellence in storytelling by a female writer or director, the 6th annual Nora Ephron Award, presented by Chanel, will award $25,000 to a woman who embodies the spirit and boldness of the late filmmaker.

“For our program this year, we have curated a selection of filmmakers whose distinct voices illuminate the world around us. Audiences can choose their cinematic journeys to faraway places or closer to home, to discover unique stories told with audacity and emotion and to get to know heroic, flawed, and lovable characters,” said Artistic Director Frédéric Boyer.

This year’s notable Closing Night and Centerpiece Gala films are Liz Garbus’s “The Fourth Estate” and Drake Doremus’s “Zoe,” respectively. Documentary “The Fourth Estate” follows New York Times journalists and their coverage of the President’s first year in office and “Zoe,” a sci-fi romance exploring the technological reproduction of love, stars motley crew Ewan McGregor, Léa Seydoux, Rashida Jones, and Christina Aguilera.

As a whole, the Tribeca Immersive program will present 33 virtual reality exhibitions and experiences from top creators including Jeremy Bailenson, Chris Milk, Eliza McNitt, Eugene YK Chung, Gabo Arora and Saschka Unseld, as well as emerging artists Asad J. Malik, Gabriela Arp and Lucas Rizzotto.
