DEREK LAM – NEW YORK S/S 2012 FASHION SHOW

DEREK LAM FASHION SHOW VIDEO BY XXXX MAGAZINE
East Coast preppy for Autumn/Winter and West Coast class for Spring/Summer. Derek Lam’s models walked down the catwalk in New York this month styled and primed to perfection. A combination of sleek, centre parted hair tied into nape pony tails and clean, sharp, unassuming makeup formed the perfect base for Lam’s collection. Key trends to hit the catwalk included the incorporation of milk chocolate coloured leather which Lam crafted into blazers, dresses and sleeveless tops. Lam’s collection focused around combining different textures in a subtle and seamless way, pairing leather with silk and cotton with light weight knits to create a number of timeless looks.Fashionable New Yorkers saw every piece in the collection transcend beyond primed boundaries of the runway which, it has to be said, isn’t always the case with some designer collections – unless they are fitting particularly daring clients. Lam’s collection encapsulated what can only be described as understated glamour. Garments seamed to mould around the female form like a second-skin. Every piece in the collection is a spring wardrobe must. Symmetrical, simple cuts hinted towards springs recurring minimalist trend and saw t-shirt and v-shaped necklines, three-quarter length sleeves and billowing, floor skimming skirts grace the runway. Micro-trends were rich in this collection, and stood out because of the line’s underlying simplicity.  Delicate clinched in waists, leather detailing, crochet and subtle fringing detailed light-weight sweaters, delicate crepe dresses, silky jumpsuits and loose-fitting pantaloons to ensure Lam’s collection upheld its sleek and refined backbone. Stand-out pieces included Lam’s silk column dresses which moved with mesmerising fluency down the runway. Ready-to-wear it certainly was – a synonymous blend of slouchy and prim – work wear, day wear, evening wear – it was there.Fashion Week Coverage Directed by Indira Cesarine for XXXX Magazine
