2276 East 16th Street Los Angeles, CA 90021
July 1 – July 30, 2016
This July Night Gallery presents exhibit Illusion: Chen Ren, Huang Yuxing and Xue Feng curated by Shi Zheng. The exhibition features a collection of painting, photography and video works. This will be the gallery’s first collaboration with artists from China. Huang Yuxing and Xue Feng have created new paintings for the exhibition that render surrealistic views of how images can create a misconstrued impression of reality. Both artists offer tonal schemes on opposite sides of the color spectrum; Huang Yuxing uses bright fiery hues and architecture to portray the dysfunction within a community, where as Xue Feng incorporates the cool tones of nature and humanity. Illusion is on view through July 30th.
In addition to Illusion, the Night Gallery will also be hosting Han Bing‘s solo exhibit, Facades and Waves until July 30th. This will be her first solo exhibit in Los Angeles. She is presenting paintings that reflect the daily life experiences of walking among the skyscraper landscapes similar to her current base in New York City.
The shapes and textures in her paintings are accumulated in layers between transparent and opaque marks, and then sealed with pronounced, defined edges. This causes the facades to become flat planes, interrupted by tarnished gestures. The Night Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 12pm to 7pm.
