On Saturday, April 30th, SoHo Arts Club hosted an auction at 76 Wooster Street. Works by 25 contemporary artists were on display and also available for bidding. Artists that participated in the event include: Alexander Calder, Anthony Lister, Chad Muska, Judith Supine, Mr. Brainwash, Retna, Bradley Theodore, Tripp Derrick Barnes, and others. The founder of SoHo Arts Club, Harif Guzman, also participated in the auction. All proceeds from the event benefit the preservation of the arts.
Guzman started the SoHo Arts Club with his friend and real-estate developer, Golan Marom, to revive the creative era of the 70’s and 80’s to SoHo. 76 Wooster was once the stomping grounds of artists such as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Julian Schnabel. The mission of the club is to keep the art culture alive by encouraging young, local artists. Included in the event ticket purchase was an annual club membership. Club members get access to exclusive, private events hosted by the club throughout the year.
