The 2020 annual Grammy Awards premiered Sunday January 26th and today’s top music artists vied for The Recording Academy’s most prestigious accolades. Billie Eilish may have won the most awards of the night, but Christian Siriano, Donatella Versace and Alexander Wang were among the top designers featured on the red carpet and on stage.

Best New Artist nominee Yola wore a fuchsia pink fringe sequin gown on the red carpet, a design custom-made by Siriano. “He is a magician. An actual magic man,” Yola said of Siriano. Acclaimed country music legend Shania Twain wore a Spring 2020 Christian Siriano black polka dot tulle dress as she presented the award for Best Country Duo/Group performance. For her performance of “Cuz I Love You,” this year’s most nominated artist Lizzo wore a Siriano custom black ball gown studded with rhinestones. Demi Lovato’s triumphant return to the stage for her performance of “Anyone” included her donning an elegant white tuxedo gown designed by Siriano.

Christian Siriano, once the sassy punk rock haired contestant who had a knack for saying “fierce” on season four of Bravo’s Project Runway has now become one of the most attributed designers on the red carpet and on the runway. Straight off the high of winning the fashion design reality tv show, Siriano’s fashion line, Christian Siriano, debuted at 2008’s New York Fashion Week. Since then, Siriano has been praised for his brand’s inclusivity; styling celebrities of all ethnicities, sizes, ages and genders while offering his clothing line in a wide range of sizes.

In a 2018 interview with The Untitled Magazine’s editor in chief Indira Cesarine, Siriano spoke about the diversity of his models and the accessibility of his label, “I’m really glad we have girls of different shapes and ethnicities because now, the customer can see themselves in the clothes … it’s really great that [fashion] is more accessible, which I think is important considering what’s happening in our culture. Fashion can still feel aspirational but it doesn’t have to feel completely closed off to the world.”

Christian Siriano’s forthcoming runway show at New York Fashion Week will be this coming Thursday, February 6th at Spring Studios.

Spanish singer Rosalía wore a red leather belted Alexander Wang dress and heels. “I love Alexander and he knows it too!” Rosalia joked to Entertainment Tonight. Winner of the 2019 Grammy award Best New Artist, Dua Lipa wore a 90’s inspired two piece white satin top and skirt by Wang.

At only 20-years-old Wang started his fashion label in New York City. He soon became a widely recognized designer, known for his extensive use of black and penchant for going against the status quo. “I just want to create beautiful things, but I want to create beautiful things that really leave an impact, and create things that I think people really resonate with. And that means something,” Wang told Business Insider.

Donatella Versace, of the luxury fashion brand Versace custom designed Lil Nas X’s fuchsia pink leather ensemble as well as Lizzo’s crystal studded white gown look for the red carpet and beaded fringe dress for the Grammy’s after party. Pop singer Camila Cabello wore three custom made Atelier Versace gowns, a gothic black leather bodice and sheer gown on the red carpet, a pink mini dress with pearl detail for her performance of “First Man” and a yellow side slit gown for a rendition of “I Sing the Body Electric” from Fame with Ben Platt. R&B singer Alicia Keys hosted this year’s GRAMMYS and opened the show wearing a fitted metallic mesh gown by Atelier Versace and closed the show wearing a custom Atelier Versace bodysuit and crystal-embellished Versace boots.

Versace is known for being a luxury couture fashion house, designing and hand-making custom gowns from high quality materials and jewels. The painstaking amount of attention paid to each and every detail, to each bead, each stud and each thread of the needle are all reasons Atelier Versace is the world’s most famous and renowned fashion house. Seven hundred hours went into hand-beading Swarvoski crystals into Lizzo’s fringe dress, Keys’ metal mesh dress took almost 600 hours to complete, Lil Nas X’s leather outfit took 700 hours to complete as each accent was hand-studded, while Cabello’s black gothic gown’s baroque motifs were meticulously hand-embroidered.

Now the Creative Director of Versace, Donatella Versace became a fashion legend in her own right when singer and actress Jennifer Lopez wore a tropical green chiffon dress designed by Versace to the 42nd Grammy Awards – the dress immediately became a global sensation and launched Versace’s career as an independent designer. When asked who her muses are, the Italian fashion designer replied “strong women.”

These three designers combined dressed nine artists at this year’s Grammy awards, affirming their legendary status in the fashion industry. Still, more of the stand out looks of the night are the result of other designer-artist collaborations. These include FKA Twigs‘ baroque-inspired Ed Marler dress, Ariana Grande in her grey tulle ballgown designed by Giambattista Valli and award presenter Bebe Rexha‘s custom Christian Cowan wide leg trousers, loose jacket and see through diamond lined shirt ensemble.
